Source: The gas industry’s death rattle
Our new investigation into hydrogen heating shows how gas and boiler companies are lobbying the EU to make all gas consumers pay for €240bn of new hydrogen pipelines, whether they use hydrogen for heating or not.
This means people across Europe could see their energy bills skyrocket yet further, even if they don’t want to switch to hydrogen heating.
Instead of a windfall tax, it’d be a hand-out to the gas industry which has been posting record profits throughout the energy crisis.
Even if people could switch over to hydrogen for their boilers, we found it would cost twice as much as heating with gas. Gas companies will stop at nothing to make sure people keep their boilers running – even if it means their energy bills doubling.
